CHARLESTON, WV — West Virginia Supreme Court Justice Evan Jenkins announced his resignation, which will be effective on Monday, February 7th.
The Supreme Court released a letter from Jenkins to the press, announcing his decision.
Jenkins wrote, “After a great deal of prayer and careful consideration with my family, I have decided to return to the practice of law and put my years of state and federal experience to work promoting job-creating economic development projects and championing the issues I so deeply believe will benefit the people of West Virginia.”
In 2018, Jenkins was appointed by Gov. Jim Justice following the resignation of Robin Davis. Davis had stepped down after a legislative inquiry into the entire West Virginia Supreme Court regarding corruption.
Jenkins was elected to the position on November 6, 2018, to complete the remaining tenure of the six-year term.
Jenkins noted he had met with Governor Jim Justice to inform him about his resignation. Justice praised Jenkins’ time on the Court and said that he would name another worthy successor to the role.
