WASHINGTON — On Tuesday, Republican Congressman, Kevin McCarthy, was removed as Speaker of the House of Representatives by both House Republicans and Democrats.

This event will be marked as the first time in US History, that a House Speaker, has ever been removed from political office. Especially due to the fact, that this would have only been Rep. McCarthy’s first year.

A vote was brought to the attention of the House Representatives, stating that Rep. McCarthy, should be removed as the acting House Speaker. The vote being led by Florida Congressman, Matt Gaetz, saying that Kevin McCarthy has failed to take a stand where it matters. Rep. Gaetz would push the House Republicans to vote in favor along with the Democrats, to have McCarthy removed, with his attempts being a success.

With the House now absent of its speaker, a second vote took place during the session, with North Carolina Rep. Patrick T. McHenry being appointed temporarily as the Speaker of the House.

Due to the members of the House ousting him from Political office, Rep. McCarthy has publicly announced that he will not be running for re-election.

In an interview with CNN, Rep. Matt Gaetz stated, “Speaker McCarthy made an agreement with House Conservatives in January, and since then he has been in brazen repeated material breach of that agreement. This agreement that he made with Democrats to really blow past a lot of the spending guardrails we had and then overnight I learned that Kevin McCarthy had a secret deal with Democrats on Ukraine.”

As of now, it’s uncertain who will be voted in as the next House Speaker, with several Representatives such as Rep. Steve Scalise and Rep. Jim Jordon announcing their run for Speaker. However many people believe that former US President Donald J. Trump may run to be the next Speaker of the House, but it is very unlikely that he will do so, as Trump remarked. “I will do whatever it is to help, but my main focus is on being President.”

With Rep. McCarthy now being the first House Speaker to ever be removed, the support he gained while in political office has seemed to dissipate, with the announcement that he will not be running again.
