Councilman David McCauley’s account pulled-down from Facebook after FBI raid

BUCKHANNON — Councilman and Former Mayor David McCauley made headlines after his home was rated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, allegedly related to a relationship with a minor. McCauley’s account was formally under the username @dw.mack.9, and has been pulled down. It is currently unknown whether Councilman David McCauley’s Facebook account was deactivated by law enforcement or by McCauley himself.

During the October 18th Buckhannon City Council Meeting, McCauley attempted to make a public comment with regards to the investigation.

“Finally, Mr. Skinner I have a short statement I’d like to read. On September 30, my home was searched by authorities. I’ve been entirely cooperative–”, McCauley said, but then stopped abruptly.

Mayor Robbie Skinner interrupted McCauley, as expressed that city council meetings were for official city business, and using it as an opportunity to make a statement about personal matters is prohibited.

“I’m not sure that this is the appropriate place to talk about this. We talk about the business of the city and the agenda. I’m not sure this is the right platform,” Mayor Skinner stated.

Multiple other councilmembers voiced objections to McCauley’s comments, including Councilman David Thomas who exclaimed, “I agree with the mayor.”

No additional details related to the case have been shared by federal investigators or the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department in relation to the case.
