CHARLESTON — On Monday, Patrick Morrisey will conclude his twelve-year tenure as West Virginia’s Attorney General and be sworn in as the state’s 37th governor. The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. and will be broadcast live by West Virginia Public Broadcasting.

The West Virginia Wins inaugural committee, an independent nonprofit responsible for organizing and funding the day’s events, has released a full schedule for the public. While most events are open to everyone, some may require registration or ticket purchases through the committee’s website, wvwins.com/itinerary.

Free Events:

  • 9:00 a.m. Faith-Based Breakfast at The Culture Center (registration required)
  • 11:00 a.m. Swearing-In Ceremony at The North Circle (registration required)
  • 12:30 p.m. Refreshments at The Culture Center (registration required)
  • 1:30 p.m. Inaugural Parade on Kanawha Boulevard
  • 3:00 p.m. Cultural Exhibits at The Culture Center
  • 7:30 p.m. Fireworks at the Charleston Coliseum

Ticketed Events:

  • 5:30 p.m. Celebration Concert featuring Shenandoah and The Marshall Tucker Band at the Charleston Coliseum ($10 ticket)
  • 7:45 p.m. Inaugural Dinner ($100 all-inclusive ticket)
  • 9:00 p.m. Inaugural Ball ($100 all-inclusive ticket)

The day’s events will mark a shift from Gov. Jim Justice’s 2021 inauguration, which was impacted by COVID-19 restrictions and had limited participation. Justice, who is stepping down as governor to assume his new role in the U.S. Senate, expressed his support for Morrisey, who will inherit a state budget affected by recent tax cuts.

Morrisey, who made his first round of executive and cabinet appointments earlier this month, also emphasized that safety would be a priority for the inauguration. “We’re going to do everything possible to make sure that people feel comfortable and safe on inauguration day,” he said, noting proactive measures would be in place.

The swearing-in ceremony will be streamed on wvpublic.org and aired on the West Virginia channel at 11 a.m. Monday, January 13.
