West Virginia Congressional Delegation United in Support of Trump’s Strike on Iranian Nuclear Sites

CHARLESTON — West Virginia’s congressional delegation expressed unanimous support for former President Donald Trump’s decision Saturday to launch airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities, describing the action as a necessary and justified step to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Sen. Jim Justice, R-W.Va., posted an image of the U.S. flag on social media and voiced strong backing for the former president.

“President Trump is exactly the leader we need in these uncertain times,” Justice wrote. “Actions like this highlight the President’s peace through strength approach to those who threaten our interests, chant death to America, and sponsor terrorism across the world. I applaud our brave service members for their successful mission and reiterate the President’s call for Iran to come to the negotiating table.”

Rep. Carol Miller, R-W.Va., who represents the state’s 1st Congressional District, echoed that support and suggested Iran had been given multiple chances to avoid escalation.

“Iran was persistent in their refusal to stop enriching uranium,” Miller said in a post on 𝕏. “We gave them every opportunity to stop and agree to nuclear disarmament. They refused, so America ended their nuclear weapons program tonight. The Commander in Chief has my full support.”

Rep. Riley Moore, R-W.Va., representing the 2nd District, praised the operation and urged a diplomatic resolution moving forward.

“President Trump has made it clear for more than a decade: Iran cannot attain a nuclear weapon,” Moore said. “The President’s targeted strike tonight was the right decision. Thanks be to God all of our military personnel involved are safe. They executed flawlessly.”

Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., the senior member of the delegation, posted her statement the following day, reiterating the longstanding U.S. position that a nuclear-armed Iran is unacceptable.

“[The President of the United States] has always been clear that Iran cannot obtain a nuclear weapon,” Capito wrote on 𝕏. “A nuclear Iran would destabilize the Middle East in ways we have never seen before and ignite a nuclear arms race. The Iranian regime is responsible for the death of Americans, the horrors of October 7th, Houthi attacks on our Navy, and terror proxy attacks against U.S. bases in the region. I fully support President Trump’s decisive action.”

The delegation’s remarks reflect strong Republican unity in West Virginia on foreign policy and national security, particularly in regard to Iran and support for Israel. The weekend’s airstrikes marked a significant escalation in tensions between the United States and Iran, with Trump stating the strikes were aimed at halting further nuclear development by the Iranian regime.
