CHARLESTON — A bill to allow children to receive sex-change therapy has been submitted for introduction in the West Virginia House of Delegates. Delegates Storch, Higginbotham, Bates, Reed, Hansen, Thompson, Doyle, Bates, Young, and Graves all served as co-sponsors to HB3033, ironically titled ‘The Youth Mental Health Protection Act.’
On section §16-63-3, lines 5-10, the legislation allows therapy that “provides assistance to [minors] undergoing gender transition” “as long as does not seek to change an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity. ”
When counselors begin performing sex-change therapy on a child, they start by putting them through psychological sessions that reaffirm their “gender identity.” Once the child reaches adolescence, they begin to provide testosterone injections (for biological females) or give them hormone blockers (for biological males).
If passed, this bill will codify protections for the early stages of sex-change therapy for minors.
