Pedophiles purportedly create anonymous Facebook pages against Adams for WV Senate

Scott Adams is a Republican candidate for state senate from Brooke County, WV. Adams is a former West Virginia State Trooper working in the Crimes Against Children Unit, and is responsible for over 30 convictions.

As soon as Adams filed to run for State Senate, Facebook accounts began popping-up attacking Adams’ wife, family, and church. His announcement focused on his desire to pass legislation that creates stronger protections for children accompanied with tougher penalties for child sexual abuse.

West Virginia Secretary of State monitors related violations.  §3-8-12 of the WV Code:

(a) A person may not publish, issue, or circulate, or cause to be published, issued, or circulated, any anonymous letter, circular, placard, radio or television advertisement, or other publication supporting or aiding the election or defeat of a clearly identified candidate.

Such circulation is a jailable offense with a penalty up to one year in jail or up to a $1,000 fine. The code reads:

(m) Any person violating any provision of this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be fined not more than $1,000, or confined in jail for not more than one year, or both fined and confined.

During his time with the West Virginia State Police, Scott Adams was awarded the Medal of Valor (2006), the Ohio County Elks Officer of the Year (2010), and the US Attorney’s Award (2014).
