CHARLESTON — Republican Sen. Mark Hunt has secured the GOP nomination in the West Virginia Auditor’s race.
Hunt secured the victory with 73,748 votes, capturing 39.0% of the vote and surpassing Auditor candidates Eric Householder at 25.6%, Caleb Hannah at 15.8%, and Tricia Jackson at 19.5%.
With a strong background in West Virginia, Hunt served as a Legislative Analyst for the West Virginia Office of Legislative Services for six years before attending law school.
Hunt has played a pivotal role in the state Legislature for over 30 years from 1994 to 2024. Initially serving as a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates, Mark Hunt represented the 36th District. In 2022, Mark Hunt ran as a candidate for the State Senate’s 8th District.
During his campaign, Sen. Hunt made an unexpected visit to the Mexican-American border to draw attention to the growing border issues and sanctuary cities growing in America.
In a Facebook post, Sen. Hunt stated, “The office of state auditor is fundamentally important to ensuring our tax dollars are being spent wisely and not abused. By providing effective oversight, we can ensure that our state is running efficiently and improve the cost-effectiveness of our budget.”
Hunt is now set to compete against Mary Ann Claytor, the Democratic nominee, in the upcoming November 5th election.
