WESTON — Lewis County’s new sheriff wasted no time fulfilling his campaign promise to tackle the drug problem in the area, overseeing a significant raid last week that resulted in nine arrests and the seizure of a substantial drug haul.
Sheriff Mickey Metz, along with state and local law enforcement agencies, executed a raid on a home in Weston, where they recovered over 1,000 units of fentanyl and heroin, as well as $1,000 in cash.
“We’ve had this house under surveillance for a while, and we knew there was a heavy flow of heroin and fentanyl coming into the county from there,” Sheriff Metz explained. “When the opportunity presented itself, we were able to secure a warrant and take action.”
The operation was in line with Metz’s pledge to prioritize drug enforcement in the county, but he was quick to credit the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies, including the Weston City Police and West Virginia State Police.
The bust yielded a large quantity of fentanyl and heroin, as well as the arrests of nine individuals who were inside the home at the time of the raid. Among those arrested were Cody Keesecker, 40, and Madison Townsend, 27, both of whom face charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. The remaining seven individuals were charged with conspiracy. All nine are currently being held at the Central Regional Jail in Flatwoods.
Metz emphasized the importance of the operation but acknowledged that the fight against drugs in the county is far from over.
“This bust will certainly make a dent in the fentanyl coming into the county, but there’s still a lot of work to be done,” he said.
