On June 17, a second inmate, Alana Saul, 43, was found unresponsive and later died that evening. Saul had been jailed on a charge of domestic battery.
Authorities have not released additional information regarding the circumstances of either death.
“The West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation is committed to the safety, quality of life, and well-being of those in the care of the legal system in our state,” the department said in a statement.
Both deaths are under investigation by the Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s Criminal Investigation Division and the West Virginia State Police.
