More than 82,000 without power across West Virginia after overnight storms

CHARLESTON — More than 82,000 customers across West Virginia were without electricity early Friday after a strong line of storms moved through the state overnight, according to PowerOutage.com.

As of 6 a.m., the outage tracking website reported 82,728 customers without power out of more than 1 million monitored statewide. Power outages were reported in multiple regions, with the highest concentrations in central and southern West Virginia.

Kanawha County had the largest number of outages, with 10,995 customers affected. Mingo County reported 5,034 outages, followed by Taylor County with 4,909. Marion County had 4,699 customers without power, while Calhoun County reported 4,332 outages.

Additional outages were reported in Harrison County, where 4,232 customers were affected, Raleigh County with 3,922 outages, and Logan County with 3,516.

The outages followed storms late Thursday night into early Friday that brought strong winds and heavy rainfall. The weather likely caused trees and limbs to fall onto power lines and damaged electrical equipment.

Residents were urged to avoid downed power lines and to report outages or hazardous conditions directly to their local utility providers.
