Charnock Wins GOP Primary Nomination for State Senate in District 17

CHARLESTON — Sen. Anne Charnock won the Republican primary Tuesday for West Virginia’s 17th Senatorial District, defeating challenger Michael Jarrouj in a race centered entirely in Kanawha County.

Charnock, who was appointed earlier this year by Gov. Patrick Morrisey to fill the vacancy created by Eric Nelson’s resignation, secured the nomination with 3,783 votes, or 56.8%, while Jarrouj received 2,883 votes, or 43.2%.

Because the district’s Republican primary was contested solely in Kanawha County, the county results mirrored the overall outcome.
