Huelin Cecil Linger, 93, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 23, 2025, surrounded by his family. Huelin was born on September 20, 1931, to the late Cecil and Marie Linger of Buckhannon. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Patricia (Tetty) Anne Starkey Linger. They were married August 19, 1952. He is also survived by his six children: David (Kim), Donald (Cathy), Danny, Alice Alkire (Dallas), Darrell (Michelle), and Jeanan Hoover (Jerry); 9 grandchildren: Kristopher Linger (Jess), Kacey Massey (Jeff), Derek Alkire (Linsey), Holly Morgan (Lucas), Nathaniel Linger (Lorilyn), Kirsten Linger (fiancé-Todd Blake), Kayla Linger, Jordan Hoover and Cole Hoover; and 10 great-grandchildren. His sister, Carol Ann Armstrong (Ken) survives in Fort Myers, Florida. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by infant brother, James, and his sister, Wava Snyder (Nelson).
He graduated from Tennerton High School in 1948. He spent 2 years in the Korean War, 1952-1954. He received the Combat Infantry Badge and 3 bronze service stars. In 1948, he started working for Home Hardware and worked there for 48 plus years where he greeted everyone with a “Hey farmer!” Also, he owned and operated a farm on Stony Run Road.
Huelin was a born-again Christian by faith. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in 1944 and never looked back. He belonged to the Hampton United Methodist Church for 72 years, until it closed last summer. He then attended Good Hope Tabernacle. Huelin was known to wish everyone “Merry Christmas!” and to sing “Joy to the World” anytime throughout the year. He has been a witness for Christ throughout his life and always had a testimony about the goodness of God.
The family will receive friends at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, from 4-8:00 PM. The funeral will be held at the Good Hope Tabernacle on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM with Pastors Mike Hinkle, Holly J. Hoover, and J. Edward McDaniels officiating. Interment will follow in the Hampton Cemetery where the Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
