On Thursday, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) stated that the United States Constitution is flawed, citing the fifth amendment’s “due process” clause.
Sen. Manchin stated that due process is an inconvenient “firewall” that prevents denying Americans access to firearms.
“The problem we have — and really, the firewall we have right now, is due process. It’s all due process. So we can all say, ‘Yeah, we want the same thing,’ but how do we get there? If a person is on a terrorist watch list like the gentleman — the shooter — in Orlando, he was, twice by the FBI, we were briefed yesterday about what happened. But that man was brought in twice. They did everything they could,” the senator said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.
When Joe Manchin was elected as the U.S. Senator for West Virginia, he took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. Now, he is calling for it to be “transformed.”
Manchin has been a strong supporter of gun control on Capitol Hill, despite representing a heavily pro-gun state and after promising to defend “our Second Amendment rights.”
