Mario Francesco Oliverio, Longtime Clarksburg Barber and Devoted Family Man, Dies at 80

Mario

CLARKSBURG — Mario Francesco Oliverio, 80, of Bridgeport, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Mon General Hospital in Morgantown.

Born on April 2, 1945, in San Giovanni in Fiore, Italy, he was the son of the late Guiseppe and Rosa Ruggerio Oliverio. A devoted husband, he was married to Mary Ann Belcastro Oliverio on January 3, 1981. She survives him at their home in Bridgeport.

Mario is also survived by his four children: Joseph Oliverio and wife Nicole of Bridgeport; Battista Oliverio and wife Ashley of Clarksburg; Mario Francesco Oliverio II and his significant other, Anna, of Hershey, Pennsylvania; and daughter Rosalba Nutter and husband Adam of Bridgeport. He leaves behind six beloved grandchildren: Dominick, Andrew, Bella, Amora, Alexander, and Liam. Also surviving are his brother, Antonio Oliverio and wife Katherine, and sister Maria Jeovanna Oliverio, both of San Giovanni, Italy, as well as two nephews and one niece.

A skilled barber who began cutting hair at the age of 13 under the guidance of his godfather, Mario also practiced his trade in France before making his home in West Virginia. He was the owner and operator of Mario’s Barber Shop in Clarksburg since 1994, where he served the community for decades until his recent retirement.

Mario was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Bridgeport. He enjoyed gardening, cooking — with homemade ravioli as his signature dish — and cheering on his favorite soccer teams during the World Cup. Above all, he cherished time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Family and friends may pay their respects at Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort, on Sunday, June 22, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, June 23, at 10:00 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, 317 East Main Street, Bridgeport, celebrated by Father Walt Jagela and Father Casey Mahone.
