In 2010, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) promised on the campaign trail to defend our second amendment rights, get the federal government out of our pockets, and repeal “the bad parts” of Obamacare. When Manchin went to Washington, he became the leading democrat fighting for gun control, voted against the Trump tax cuts and voted against repealing Obamacare. He did exactly the opposite of what he promised to the people of the Mountain State.
On October 9, 2010, the Manchin campaign released an advertisement that received national attention called, “Dead Aim.”
Manchin said in the promotional, “I’ll always defend West Virginia. As your senator, I’ll protect our second amendment rights. That’s why the NRA endorsed me. I’ll take on Washington and [the Obama administration] to get the federal government off of our backs and out of our pockets. I’ll cut federal spending, and I’ll repeal the bad parts of Obamacare. I sued EPA, and I’ll take dead aim at the Cap and Trade Bill. Because it’s bad for West Virginia.”
Less than one month of serving as senator, Manchin voted against repealing Obamacare on February 2, 2011.
Voted Against Repealing Obamacare, After Promising to Repeal the “Bad Parts”
On February 20, 2014, Manchin hypothetically told the Register-Herald, “I will vote tomorrow to repeal [Obamacare], but I want to fix the problems in it.”
On July 26, 2015, Manchin was given another opportunity to repeal the healthcare law. He voted against the repeal, joining his liberal democratic colleagues.
Co-Sponsored Gun Control Legislation
On December 17, 2012, within one month of winning re-election, Joe Manchin went on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. During the interview, Manchin made his first declaration in support of gun control, following the shooting in Sandy Hook.
“It’s time to move beyond rhetoric, we need to sit down and have a common-sense discussion and move in a reasonable way,” Manchin continued, “this has changed the dialogue and it should move beyond dialogue; we need action.”
On April 17, 2013, Manchin was the leading democrat to co-sponsor one of the most liberal gun control bills proposed to the United States Senate in the 21st century. The bill was so liberal, that even 5 democrats could not get behind the legislation. The amendment failed passage.
On June 16, 2016, following the failure of his horrific gun control bill and the Orlando shooting, Manchin returned to the Morning Joe to criticize the Fifth Amendment of the United States Constitution. He blamed the amendment for obstructing his signature legislation.
“The problem we have — and really, the firewall we have right now, is due process. It’s all due process,” Manchin expressed.
As recently as March 26, 2017, Manchin told the New York Times Magazine that he hoped to have “a complete opportunity” to secure gun control under the Trump administration.
Voted NOT to Keep The Federal Government “Out of Our Pockets”
On December 19, 2017, Manchin voted against the Trump tax cuts, which will give a break to over 80 percent of Americans. What happened to getting the “federal government off of our backs and out of our pockets?”
Then, in an interview last week with WV MetroNews’ Hoppy Kercheval, Manchin stated “There’s some good in this bill. I acknowledge that.”
Kercheval followed up, asking Manchin why he would vote against a bill that would benefit the vast majority of West Virginians and American tax payers.
“The things that you mention are correct. Initially people will benefit and see some changes in their taxes,” Manchin responded.
Then why did he vote against it? Manchin wanted to side in with the Democrats, and could not handle being the only democrat on Capitol Hill voting for the Trump tax plan. In other words, he is more loyal to the Democratic Party than his own constituents.
Not to mention, he also proudly endorsed Hillary Clinton in the 2016 Presidential Election, over Donald Trump.
Manchin Endorsed Hillary Clinton for President in 2016
On May 2, 2016, Joe Manchin endorsed Hillary Clinton and appeared at a roundtable discussion, urging West Virginians to support her for President.
“I’m willing to take the flack because I believe in her,” Manchin said. “I know I’ve got two people I can count on, Hillary and Bill.”
Manchin Said Sen. Al Franken Shouldn’t Resign
On December 18, 2017, he also defended Sen. Al Franken (D-MN), who was accused of sexually assaulting multiple women, one of which had photographic evidence of the incident.
“What they did to Al was atrocious, the Democrats,” Manchin told Politico. “I hope they have enough guts and enough conscience and enough heart to say, ‘Al, we made a mistake asking prematurely for you to leave.’”
“I Don’t Give A S**t” – Sen. Manchin
In August, Manchin vulgarly told the Charleston Gazette-Mail that he did not care about winning re-election and being held accountable for his atrocious record.
“I don’t give a s**t, you understand? I just don’t give a s**t,” he continued, “Don’t care if I get elected, don’t care if I get defeated, how about that. If they think because I’m up for election, that I can be wrangled into voting for s**t that I don’t like and can’t explain, they’re all crazy.”
Senator Joe Manchin has lied to his constituents, issuing false promises. He has embarrassed this state with his leftist policy proposals and support of Hillary Clinton. And Manchin has managed to successfully deceive West Virginians into electing him into the Senate twice. It is time for ‘Sleazy Joe’ to go.
