Charles Allen, age 93, of Buckhannon, died on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Holbrook Healthcare Center following an extended illness. He was born on December 28, 1932, in Philippi, WV, a son of the late Howard and Ora Findly Allen. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lula B. McLean Allen, on September 1, 1956, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two children: Jeffrey C. and wife Arlene Allen of Buckhannon and Barbara L. and husband Thomas E. Riffle of Buckhannon; three grandchildren: Laura Riffle Pritt, Jennifer Riffle Manning, and Jeremy Reger; four great grandchildren: Hunter Pritt, Aspen Manning, Miah Reger, Johannah Reger; one great great granddaughter: Ameriah Pritt. In addition to his father and mother he was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
Charles loved his family and his two children were his joy; they were with him every day through the many years of his illness. He retired from Western Union with twenty-five years of service. He had worked for B & O, C & O, and CSX Railroad for twelve years before his retirement January 1, 1995. He was well liked and received many honor pins for his work. Charles was a people person and a Christian by faith. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and family time. He served as a past Cub Scout Den Father in Gassaway, WV and was Past President of the Hodgesville Lions Club. He served his country proudly in the United States Army. The family would like to express their appreciation to Holbrook Healthcare employees and WVU Hospice for their excellent care during Mr. Allen’s illness.
Graveside services and interment will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Buckhannon Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Ed Lowther officiating. The Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested any donations be made to the Hodgesville Lions Club.
