Marie-Luise Elisabeth Busz Flor, age 89, of Buckhannon and formerly of the Eden/Gaines Community, Rock Cave, WV died on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
She was born on August 7, 1936, in Essen, Germany, the fourth child of the late Dr. Bernhard-Wilhelm Busz and Christel Lange-Huesken Busz. She went to a four year “Grundschule” Catholic school, then to a nine-year new language secondary school, “Lyzeum”, where she graduated with the “Abitur”, she then entered the University of Munster, Germany as a pre-med student for five semesters until in 1957, she followed Wolfgang H. Flor to the United States where they married and had two daughters: Veronica Maria Grant and Ulrika Maria Flor Browning, and several grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years.
At the age of 42, she entered West Virginia University, where she received her BA and MA degrees in Art and German and was a member of Phi Kappa Phi. During summer sessions, she taught beginners’ workshops in woodcarving at the Augusta Heritage Arts Workshop. She also took private lessons to work in Faceted and Stained Glass. She made beautiful artistic straw cards and ornaments.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Buckhannon and was an active member of the Buckhannon Senior Center, where she loved and enjoyed her friends at chair aerobics.
Her Motto was ORA ET LABORA (Pray and Work)
At the request of Marie-Luise, her body will be cremated and a Memorial Mass of the Resurrection will be offered on Monday, May 18, 2026, at 10:00AM at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 35 Franklin Street, Buckhannon, WV with Father Edward Tetteh, SVD as celebrant, followed by burial of cremains at the Canaan Cemetery. Following the burial, everyone is invited back to Marist Hall at the Church for refreshments and fellowship with the family.
