BUCKHANNON — Shauna Jones has announced that she will be running for Buckhannon City Council in 2020. While Jones is a registered Democrat, she will be seeking a seat in the local municipal non-partisan election. Therefore, she will be appearing on the ballot without party affiliation.
Jones, who is heterosexual, has served as an activist and “ally” of the LGBT movement. In January, she infamously spoke in support of Ordinance 434, which sought to target faith-based businesses and force their compliance with acceptance of homosexuality. Failure to comply with this ordinance could have resulted in the seizure of defendants’ bank accounts, loss of business licenses, or even imprisonment. Pastors, representing 12 of the largest churches in Buckhannon, flocked to City Hall representing thousands of their total congregants. The pastors expressed the reality that this ordinance would be a direct assault on religious liberty, serving as a violation of the First Amendment.
Jones was recently hired to serve as the Dean of Students at Buckhannon-Upshur High School, after working as a Freshman Adviser at West Virginia Wesleyan College from November 25, 2010 to August 2, 2019.
