The Journal’s 2020 Endorsements for the WV Supreme Court: Armstead, Raynes, Dyer.

DIVISION 1

Tim Armstead has a proven conservative track record, defending life and the rule of law. Armstead restored integrity in the West Virginia Supreme Court, now serving as the Chief Justice. Formerly, Armstead served as the Republican Speaker of the House, representing the 40th District in the West Virginia House of Delegates. He is an experienced leader, practicing law for nearly 3 decades. He is a graduate of West Virginia University College of Law and is overly qualified for his position. For these reasons, we endorse Tim Armstead for the West Virginia Supreme Court.

DIVISION 2

Kris Raynes is a conservative candidate running for the West Virginia Supreme Court. Raynes is a graduate of the University of Akron School of Law, beginning her legal career in the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office in Akron, Ohio in 2000. Since 2006, she has trained prosecutors across the nation as a faculty member for the National District Attorneys Association (NDAA). Raynes is endorsed by West Virginians for Life and the West Virginia Republican Party. For these reasons, we endorse Kris Raynes for the West Virginia Supreme Court.

DIVISION 3

Laura Dyer is a conservative originalist running for the West Virginia Supreme Court. Dyer believes that the role provided in the Constitutional system establishes that judges must follow the law, rather than create the law. Dyer’s expressed principle creates a strong rejection of judges legislating from the bench, desiring to uphold the rule of law. Currently, Dyer serves as the Circuit Judge for the 5th Judicial Circuit (Jackson, Mason, Roane, and Calhoun) to Division 2. She is experienced and qualified for the position. For these reasons, we endorse Laura Dyer for the West Virginia Supreme Court.
