BUCKHANNON — On Wednesday, Del. Bill Hamilton (WV-49) announced that he will be running for WV-District-11 against incumbent and fellow republican Sen. Robert Karnes in 2018.
“I filed pre-candidacy for the 2018 election as undeclared on March 10, 2017, but after discussions with family, friends and colleagues I have decided to officially declare my intention to run for State Senate District 11 which includes Grant, Nicholas, Pendleton, Pocahontas, Randolph, Upshur and Webster Counties,” Hamilton expressed on Facebook. “On May 24, 2017 I changed my pre-candidacy from undeclared to State Senate District 11. There are two main reasons for making the decision on the 24th of May. One is that it is only fair to my constituents that I declare my intentions to run for State Senate so others can begin making preparations to run for my House seat in 2018 and the second reason is at the time I filed officially for State Senate District 11 there were only 50 weeks until the primary in May 2018. I have a lot of territory to cover over the next year so I had better get on the campaign trail now and not wait till January. I appreciate each and every one of you and hope that you will join me in my quest for State Senate.”
The vote will take place in the May 2018 primary election.
