Teachers and union leaders announce strike will continue, even after education bill was defeated in the House.

CHARLESTON — On Tuesday, the West Virginia House of Delegates voted to kill the omnibus education bill that would have provided a pay raise to teachers and school workers, but permitted charter schools to open in West Virginia. The House voted 53-45 to postpone it “indefinitely.”

As legislators left the House of Delegates chamber after 6 p.m., the crowd chanted, “See you tomorrow!”

West Virginia Education Association President Dale Lee expressed, “We believe there’s still a minute possibility for something to happen so, we will be out in all 55 counties.”

The strike is expected to end on Wednesday, with all schools being closed in the Mountain State, with the exception of Putnam County.  Teachers from 54 of the 55 counties will be participating in the strike.
