WASHINGTON — On Saturday, Sen. Joe Manchin responded to President Donald Trump, after the President called Manchin a “Puppet for Schumer and Pelosi.”

“I was very surprised and disappointed that Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia voted against me on the Democrat’s totally partisan Impeachment Hoax. No President has done more for the great people of West Virginia than me, and that will always continue,” President Trump stated.

Manchin retorted that he is more popular than the president in West Virginia, expressing that West Virginias know “who has worked day and night” for their benefit and it “wasn’t [Trump].”

“President Trump, no Democrat has worked harder in a bipartisan way in the hopes that you would succeed,” Manchin stated. “The people of WV know exactly who has worked day and night for the last 5 years to secure their healthcare & pensions and it wasn’t you,” Manchin responded.

Manchin’s remarks come after his vote to convict and remove the President, siding with all 47 democrats in the impeachment trial.

In the 2018 U.S. Senatorial General Election, Manchin only received 49.6 percent of the vote. In the 2016 Presidential Election, Trump received 68.5 percent of West Virginians’ support.
