Cowger announces Mountaineer Journal will provide live results of the Buckhannon city election.

BUCKHANNON — Caiden Cowger has announced that Mountaineer Journal will provide live results of the 2020 Buckhannon City Election on Tuesday, June 9. This will be the first time that live election results in Buckhannon will be provided digitally, as the returns are received. The coverage will begin at 7:30 p.m.

“Earlier this year, Cowger Media invested in new technology that will allow us to offer our readers live election results, without the need to refresh web browsers,” Cowger stated. “Everyone can just simply visit election.MountaineerJournal.com, and the results will update live automatically. On Election Day, we will also provide a link to the results on Mountaineer Journal.com‘s homepage.”

“In this election, Mountaineer Journal will provide live results for the Buckhannon mayoral race between Mayor David McCauley and Councilman Robbie Skinner. We will also offer coverage of the city recorder and city council races. We are also exploring the possibility of covering the 45th District’s Republican race for the House of Delegates.”

Cowger discussed the value of this new technology and its unique function in a West Virginia election.

“This new technological feature has never been utilized in providing media coverage for an in-state election. Often, this is only available in national elections (including U.S. Senate and Congressional races) by media outlets like the New York Times, The Washington Post, Fox News, etc.,” Cowger expressed. “So, we are essentially beta testing this new feature with Buckhannon’s city election, before we attempt statewide races. It’s our hope that by November, we will be able to cover the 2020 West Virginia General Election.”

He concluded by addressing the overall vision of this new feature and its desired impact on the Buckhannon community.

“It has been my genuine hope to build Mountaineer Journal into a platform that offers professional news coverage throughout the state of West Virginia. This new service will provide a feature that will be useful to all people, regardless of their political affiliation, ensuring that they receive the latest ballot results as they become available. We’re overjoyed to provide this quality service to the Buckhannon community, and also hope that it will increase civic interest in our local municipal government.”
