Gayle Manchin sworn in as co-chairwoman to Appalachian Regional Commission

WASHINGTON — On May 6th, Gayle Manchin was sworn in as the co-chairwoman of the Appalachian Regional Commission, after her recent confirmation by the U.S. Senate.

The Appalachian Regional Commission is a federal agency that focuses on regional economic development in 13 states: West Virginia, Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. All 55 counties in West Virginia are recognized by the commission, along with 365 additional counties in other states.

Manchin was nominated by President Joe Biden, and confirmed unanimously by voice vote.
