Man charged following his girlfriend’s death in Wayne County

WAYNE — A man in Wayne County faces being charged shortly after his girlfriend’s death.

Police say that Shawn Dale Carter, age 44, in Wayne, was said to have strangled his girlfriend, Connie Sue Slone, by using a ligature as a weapon.

The Wayne County Police Force responded to the state Route 152 residence on Sunday. An Officer spoke directly to Shawn, who explained he last saw Connie alive around 4:30 a.m. Shawn also added that he saw Connie’s body inside of a bedroom hallway at 5 a.m.

Connie’s daughter explained to the County Police that Shawn and Connie had recurring arguments, and the daughter had requested for the officers to look for any bruises or physical marks on the victim’s body. A medical doctor examined Connie’s body and found redness on her back and neck.

Shawn later changed his story, and told the officers that Connie had been hanging from a pink scarf on a coat rack in their bedroom, and said that he had cut her down with his knife. He then said that Connie tried to commit suicide with a dog leash.

Shawn Dale Carter was charged with second-degree murder. He is now in the Western Regional Jail.
