Rep. Mike Johnson elected as the new House Speaker

WASHINGTON — Last Wednesday, Republican Rep. Mike Johnson (R – LA) was elected to be the 56th Speaker of the House of Representatives.

House Members elected Rep. Johnson after the 3 weeks of chaos following the removal of former House Speaker Rep. Kevin McCarthy in October.

Speaker Johnson expressed his Christian values and his gratitude for the Lord, during his address to Congress by stating,

“I don’t believe there are any coincidences in a matter like this. I believe that scripture and the Bible is very clear that God is the one that raises up those in authority. He raised up each of you, all of us. And I believe God has ordained and allowed each one of us to be brought here for this specific moment and this time. This is my belief.”

“I believe that each one of us has a huge responsibility today to use the gifts that God has given us to serve the extraordinary people of this great country and they deserve it.”

The final tally of votes was 220 votes in support of Rep. Johnson and 209 for House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries.

The new House Speaker has expressed his support for President Donald Trump on several occasions, along with siding with President Trump on January 6th in a post on X (formerly Twitter,) Rep. Johnson Stated,

“I have just called President Trump to say this: “Stay strong and keep fighting, sir! The nation is depending upon your resolve. We must exhaust every available legal remedy to restore Americans’ trust in the fairness of our election system.”

Due to Rep. Johnson being an open supporter of Donald Trump, many members of the liberal media have deemed him a threat to democracy, but with this only being his second day in office it appears the House is in full support of there the new speaker.
