Appalachian Power Fighting to Restore Power After Winter Storm Blair

CHARLESTON — Crews from Appalachian Power and the West Virginia Department of Transportation continue their efforts to restore service to residents impacted by Winter Storm Blair, with significant progress reported Wednesday evening.

According to an update from Appalachian Power, the number of customers without power in the state has dropped dramatically, from nearly 27,000 on Tuesday afternoon to just under 6,000 by Wednesday evening. The majority of those affected are located in southern West Virginia, with Mercer County bearing the brunt of the outages. Of the approximately 6,000 remaining power outages, around 4,400 are in Mercer County.

Crews are working around the clock to restore power and clear debris caused by the storm, which brought heavy snow and ice to the region earlier this week. While many customers have already had their power restored, the ongoing work is expected to continue as crews address more localized outages.
