WASHINGTON — A new video released by the White House urges illegal immigrants in the United States to self-deport—and underscores its message with the soundtrack of John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”
The video, posted on X by the official White House account, features a person lounging on a couch while watching televised clips of President Donald Trump, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, and Border Enforcement Czar Tom Homan delivering stern warnings to those in the country illegally.
“People in our country illegally can self-deport the easy way, or they can get deported the hard way,” Trump says, as Denver’s song plays in the background.
Noem adds, “Leave now. If you don’t, we will find you and we will deport you.”
Homan, speaking from the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), states: “Entering this country illegally is a crime and we’re not going to forgive it.”
The video also features Border Patrol Chief Mike Banks during a CBS Face the Nation interview, warning that “if you are apprehended, you’re going to be removed from the country.”
Toward the end of the video, knocking is heard and a voice says, “United States Border Patrol! Open the door,” before it cuts to a screen promoting the CBP Home app.
The use of Denver’s nostalgic anthem appears aimed at reinforcing the administration’s call for voluntary departures, as part of its wider immigration enforcement push.
