Avandelene M. “Van” Cornell, age 96, of Buckhannon, the Lick Run Community, died Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Mountain Memories Assisted Living in Elkins, WV. She was born on March 16, 1929, at Alton, WV, a daughter of the late Ira and Madge Jane Lewis Harman. On June 21, 1947, she was united in marriage to Oliver George Cornell who preceded her in death on March 11, 1973. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by three sisters: Augusta “Gussie” Allender, Constance Harman, and Gwendolyn “Teddy” Wentz; three brothers: Deward, Dwayne, and Loye Harman; three brothers-in-law: Carey Allender, Troy Wentz, Jr., and Maynard Hanifan; and sons-in-law: Victor Snyder, Ronald Dean, and Michael Goff. She is survived by two daughters: Linda Goff of Charleston, WV, and Debra and husband Tim Orsburn of Buckhannon; four grandchildren: Laura Wall, Jennifer and husband David Boggs, Patrick Goff and wife Rebecca, and Bryan Snyder and wife Amanda; ten great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; two sisters: Luella Hanifan of Buckhannon and Dianna and husband Glenn Payne of Arizona; one brother Gary Harman and wife Susan of Buckhannon; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Van was a school cook in Upshur County for many years and was a member of the Sago Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at the Upshur County Memorial Park with the Rev. Wease Day officiating.
