WASHINGTON — On December 15th, Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R) released a statement expressing her acceptance of Joe Biden’s victory, congratulating Biden, along with calling for Republicans and Americans to ‘turn the page’ on the 2020 election and ‘begin a new administration.’
“Yesterday, the electoral college cast their votes, solidifying that former Vice President Joe Biden will be our next president and U.S. Senator Kamala Harris will be our next vice president,” Capito stated. “Following the 2020 presidential election results last month, I said I would respect the certified results and will congratulate our nation’s new leaders, regardless of the policy differences I might have with them. I still stand by this today, and offer my congratulations to President-Elect Biden and Vice President-Elect Harris. As I said yesterday, it’s time to turn the page on the 2020 election and begin a new administration.”
Capito’s verbatim phrase, ‘turn the page,’ is significant as this is the same phrase used by Biden during his speech following his electoral college victory.
“Now it is time to turn the page as we’ve done throughout our history,” Biden expressed.
While serving as Vice President, Biden was the first senate president to swear Capito into her position on January 6, 2015.
