BUCKHANNON, WV — West Virginia Wesleyan College, an affiliate with the United Methodist Church, sent out a mass email to all students. The college requested students to fill out an application, to pose nude for the Art & Design Department.
“It’s that time of year again,” the email continues, “we’re looking for life models (nude) for our spring semester drawing classes. $20/hour. Please spread the word.”
“If you have any questions, please contact us at art@wvwc.edu.”
In the application, it requests students to describe their bodies in great detail.
“Do you have any special characteristics (plus size, athletic build, senior, etc)? Professors will often request models with a specific build or body type (think plus size, senior, etc) to ensure students are getting diverse experience in drawing the human form.”
They also require the applying student to “submit a photo of themselves,” but clarify that they do not necessarily have to be nude or semi-nude.
“Please provide a link to a photo of yourself : Copy and paste a link to a photo of yourself in the box below (Please ensure it is a public link that does not require we log into a private site). We will use this to remember who you are. The photo does NOT need to be nude or semi-nude, but please include your whole body in the photo. You can upload photos to free sites such as flickr.com and get a link from the site.”
Requesting students to pose nude in front of other students is not only wrong morally, but rationally. We live in the age of technology, where nearly everyone has an iPhone or another smartphone device. Someone could easily snap a photo of the nude student and send it around campus like wildfire.
Not to mention, the scriptures are clear: this type of behavior is unacceptable.
1 Corinthians 12:23 states, “And the parts we regard as less honorable (genitals) are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen.”
In Genesis 3:21, God calls for man and woman to be clothed, expressing, “And the LORD God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife.”
West Virginia Wesleyan College is engaging in a complete rejection of the Gospel, and have turned their back to basic biblical morality. The Word of God specifies that genitals are parts that should not be publicly displayed for everyone to see, but the intellectuals at Wesleyan apparently feel that they have a higher authority to determine moral standards than God himself.
A similar case occurred on May 12, 2015. According to USA Today, Ricardo Dominguez, associate professor at the University of California-San Diego, requested his select art students to pose nude. This story became a national controversy,
This perverted type of request is disgraceful for an educational facility, especially for a college that professes to be “Christian.”
