CHARLESTON, WV — Del. Sharon Malcolm (R-39) has died at the age of 72.
According to the Associated Press, her campaign manager Emmett Hedrick expressed that Malcolm was found around noon on Monday after she passed away in her sleep. Emmett did not express if Malcolm had any existing medical conditions.
In 2018, Malcolm was appointed to serve in the West Virginia House of Delegates and was elected to a full term the same year. She was running for re-election in 2020. She was the first woman to serve as the assistant sergeant-at-arms for the State Senate and the first female assistant doorkeeper for the House of Delegates.
Funeral arraignments are presently being made at Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home in Charleston.
