BUCKHANNON — In an exclusive interview, Shelia Sines told Mountaineer Journal that she is “strongly considering” a municipal run for Buckhannon City Council in 2020.
“I have been strongly considering throwing my hat in the ring for City Council for a few weeks now,” Sines told Mountaineer Journal. “Personally, I see a serious need for new leadership and feel led to do so for several reasons. I’ve focused on a number of the decisions that the city council has made in recent years, many of which I disagree with. This council has attempted to pass ordinances that divide and separate us. We are in desperate need of unifying our town. Even more, I am concerned that they are leading us down a path that will harm us as a community.”
Sines continued, expressing her genuine concerns pertaining to the current city leadership.
“Furthermore, for the last several years, we have been running municipal policy based upon feelings rather than facts. Some elected city officials have made decisions for personal gain and desire, rather than desiring what is best for our community. I love Buckhannon and love the people who live here. I want to help keep the town safe, healthy and free, while regaining the city government’s trust of the citizens. I would like for us to stay on course and create an environment that is friendly, welcoming and moral, not conform to the ways of so many other towns. We especially cannot make the same choices of other failed municipalities, which ultimately led to their demise.”
On Thursday, Sines filed for pre-candidacy at City Hall, forming the committee “Sines for WV.”
