Raleigh County Judge Todd Kirby Announces Bid for Late Justice Armstead’s Supreme Court Seat

BECKLEY Raleigh County Circuit Judge Todd Kirby announced Monday that he will seek election to fill the unexpired term of the late West Virginia Supreme Court Justice Tim Armstead.

Kirby said in a statement that his decision followed “lots of prayer, reflection and discussion” with family and friends.

“While Justice Armstead’s unique qualities will never be matched, I feel called to take this step based on my love for this state and for the amazing people who call it home,” Kirby said.

Kirby said he has begun the formal process of launching his campaign, including filing the required paperwork.

He said he aims to build “a broad coalition of West Virginians from across the Mountain State who believe in preserving our God-given Constitutional rights, the rule of law and fairness within our court system.”

Kirby also said he will continue serving on the bench in Raleigh County throughout the campaign.

“I will continue to proudly serve in my current role as Circuit Judge during the campaign and look forward to this humbling opportunity and challenge,” he said.

The upcoming election will determine who completes the remainder of Armstead’s term on the state Supreme Court.
