WASHINGTON — The Log Cabin Republicans PAC, an LGBT lobbying group aligned with the Republican Party, has endorsed U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) as part of its first round of endorsements for the 2026 election cycle.
“We kick off the 2026 election cycle with our first wave of endorsements from LCR PAC: Log Cabin Republicans is proud to endorse Senator Shelley Moore Capito for U.S. Senate in West Virginia,” the organization wrote in a social media post announcing the decision.
Log Cabin Republicans describes itself as an organization of LGBT members of the Republican Party who work to increase inclusion within the party and promote Republican values within the LGBT community. The group says it has more than 30 chapters across roughly half of the states and the District of Columbia.
The endorsement makes Capito one of the first candidates nationwide to receive the group’s backing for 2026.
The LGBT lobbying group has supported a range of policy positions at both the federal and state levels, including a nationwide ban preventing psychologists from telling minors they must identify with their gender assigned at birth, taxpayer-funded subsidies for HIV/AIDS-related medications and treatment, same-sex marriage protections, and legal protections for LGBT adoption rights.
Capito’s voting record has maintained a consistent stance supporting the LGBT lobby. In 2022, she joined Democrats in voting to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, supporting legislation related to federal recognition of marriage, H.R. 8404. That vote is widely viewed as a factor in securing support from LGBT advocacy organizations, including Log Cabin Republicans.
Capito, who has represented West Virginia in the Senate since 2015.
The early endorsement signals the group’s intention to play a role in Republican Primaries and general elections in West Virginia and nationwide as the 2026 cycle begins.
