BUCKHANNON — On Saturday, candidate for city council Caiden Cowger called for Rick Edwards to resign from his positions of Mayor and Recorder.
When referencing gasgate, lying about his college education and the two active arrest warrants in Texas, Cowger expressed that if the the Mayor has any dignity, he will resign.
“I think personally with everything going on, if the Mayor would have any decency, he would resign and get out of there,” Cowger expressed. “He is making the town look bad.”
“By speaking up against everything going on, people have accused me of ‘causing negativity to shine on Buckhannon,'” Cowger stated. “No, we have an active fugitive serving as Mayor. That makes Buckhannon look horrible; not me.”
On Wednesday, The San Antonio Express-News released an investigative report on Edwards, exposing his criminal history and confirming that his arrest warrants are still active.
“I have been one of the main candidates running for city council that has expressed the most criticism of the Mayor,” Cowger released in a statement. “I have been accused of blathering inaccurate negativity, but now Edwards’ own hometown newspaper has exposed his lies and criminal history.”
“I am calling for Mayor Rick Edwards to resign from his positions of both Mayor and Recorder, along with publicly apologizing to the people of Buckhannon for his manipulative tactics and deceitfulness.”
Cowger has been one of the most outspoken critics of the Mayor that is presently seeking office. He first targeted Edwards in January, after the Mayor immediately launched attacks against the city council candidate, just days after Cowger filed to run for office.
