During a special city council meeting on Monday, two members of city council motioned for Mayor Rick Edwards to resign due to the recent gasgate scandal.
“I have been on city council for 16 years,” Councilwoman Pam Cuppari stated. “I have been re-elected because people trust me.”
“I am here to do what is right for the people of Buckhannon. I feel that some of the actions that our Mayor has taken up with himself as of lately, and some of the things I have heard lately,” Cuppari continued, “I motion that we get a resignation from Mr. Edwards.”
“Second,” motioned Councilwoman Robyn Riggs Simons.
“Mayor said that he thought he was entitled to use that gas card,” Simons further stated. “That was not entitled to him, and should have been left in the city vehicle.”
“It’s his duty to know what the rules are in this town. He is the CEO of the city.”
When the final, unofficial vote was taken, Cuppari and Simons voted in favor of the Mayor’s resignation. Councilman Ron Pugh, Councilman Dave Thomas and Councilwoman Mary Albaugh voted against the motion.
